Mr. Bradford Karns has always embraced his entrepreneurial spirit throughout his career.  Karns attended the University of Southern California and majored in economics with a minor in fine art.  His blend of business savvy and creativity has involved him in various opportunities and ventures.  While in college, Karns worked and played in the cycling industry, racing bicycles and working in a large bicycle shop in Los Angeles.  Karns soon became manager of a staff of 45 employees and annual sales of six million dollars.  Within a few years, at the age of 23, Karns formed a consulting business to raise funds to open his own store, provide business services to cycling industry entities, and to freelance write for various cycling publications, such as Bicycle Dealer Showcase, Mountain Bike, and MTB of Peterson Publishing. Published articles included views and trends of the industry and advanced product reviews.

When the technology revolution began in the early 1990’s, Karns formed an Internet Web development company with a college friend and a high school friend.  Encouraging them to leave their positions at a technology firm in San Francisco and Goldman Sachs on Wall Street, the three partners formed Dimension X.  Dimension X began developing websites for a plethora of corporations, with a focus on the entertainment industry.  By hiring savvy engineers and leveraging relationships with Sun Microsystems, Dimension X began creating dynamic websites, and thus differentiating themselves from other web service providers.  This differentiation led to producing highly publicized websites for programs such as The Simpsons, Beverly Hills 90210, Models, Inc., Meatloaf-Bat Out of Hell album, and an online interactive video game for Intel, the first of its kind ever made.

Most of this technological development revolved around the Java programming language created by Sun.  Java was quickly gaining a reputation as the language that would redefine how things would be done on the Internet.  This presence in the forefront allowed Dimension X to grow to over 75 employees within two years.  During this period, Web design and implementation services became more of a commodity.  Dimension X astutely reoriented its business model to become a tools company.  As a privately funded entity, Dimension X was bold to create software to compete with such bellwethers as Adobe, Corel, Microsoft, and Sun.  Product focus was on two and three dimensional animation tools.  Two products, Liquid Motion and Liquid Reality Pro, were launched successfully, as well as engineering deals to incorporate technology into web browsers and operating systems, such as Windows.

To accommodate the rapid pace of growth, Dimension X went into the venture capital market to look for investment.  Being a lynchpin in the minds of the major software companies, and not comfortable with the circumstances a venture deal would have placed on our organization, we opted for an acquisition.  Dimension X was acquired by Microsoft, and became a wholly owned subsidiary.

Subsequent to the sale of Dimension X, Karns formed a consulting firm with one of the partners from Dimension X.  Fry-Karns Consulting provided strategies, model development, and business plan writing for start-up companies, including developing the financial model and writing the business plan for Atomic Pop, the first online record label founded by industry mogul, Al Teller.

In his next business, he partnered with Joe Terrell to form  Alcasar Design, an architectural, environmental design firm that does projects ranging from residential, restaurants, hospitals, and corporate facilities.  Blending all his interests of business, culture, design, and the art of food led Karns into the entrepreneurial realm of food service.  To facilitate his education and hands on approach to work, Karns decided to train as a chef, first having attended Culinary Boot Camp at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), and then Karns attended culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu.  He trained and worked under Chef Peter Gobin, a Patina Group alumni, serving as a line cook and sous chef.  Karns has worked on various restaurant start up projects, developing business models, concepts, location study, design philosophy, and menu creation.

Karns continues to do consulting work for a range of clients, including Remington Pure Water filtration, and Remington iCoffee from product development to launch.

With his passion for cycling resurgent, Karns turned to a group of friends and cycling industry veterans, and he encouraged them to form Blokhaus Cycling, a differentiated touring and ride camp company focused on cycling the legendary climbs of the world.
